The youth walked towards the cave, a determined look set into his face. Azure, as he was known by, was of medium height and build. His hair was long and spiky ending in a long flowing ponytail. He wore a leather overcoat with trousers. A sword sheath attached to his belt and insignia sewn into the fabric.
Azure’s steps were unsure and slow, which shattered his warrior image. Things weren’t helped by the cane he held in his right hand that supported his right leg. Well what was left of it anyway, a basic metal false limb was there instead. A leather boot covered the foot of his healthy leg.
The young warrior paused at the mouth of the cave hearing urgent footsteps and shouts. A scream rang out but was quickly cut off. Another scream but this time from something primeval and dark...a familiar scream. Azure’s hand tightened on his cane, it was coming.
The woman came bursting from the cave, her leather armour torn and flayed. Her face and body covered in cuts and gashes. But the worse thing was the pure terror etched into her face. Azure reached out to her but was too late something shot from the mouth of the cave, smashing into her.
It was a man; his wounds matched the ones of the girl but were more severe and fatal. His lifeless eyes staring into the skies, his partner was trying to get back to her feet but was struggling. Something else launched itself from the cave. Something huge covered in fur, its white eyes full of hunger. Scythe like claws tensed and ready to cleave through flesh and bone.
Azure’s cane clattered to the cold earth, as the monster’s shadow loomed over him and the girl. Azure just reacted, there was a flash of steel and a deluge of crimson fluid as the monster simply split in two. Azure’s chest heaved with exertion, sword gripped in a clammy hand. His stance faltered as his right limb gave way. He prevented himself from falling by plunging his sword into the dirt using it to steady himself.
The young man found himself cursing his injury; he wasn’t used to the false leg yet hence relying on the cane. He slowly lowered himself and retrieved it. Azure was just glad the creature didn’t see his attack, he was certain if it had he wouldn’t of been able to stop it. Using the cane once more, Azure sheathed his weapon and hobbled over to the girl. Luckily she was still alive her chest moving ever so slightly. She needed help and soon, he reached into a pocket and brought out a short silver tube holding it above his head and squeezed. A firework rocketed into the sky exploding into brilliant green light, which should have been seen by his friends. And sure enough he saw the red firework reply. They were coming...
